It’s been a while between drinks, but we’re proud to say we’ve found our way onto the cover of Surfer Magazine — in a roundabout sort of way.
The latest issue from the desk of surf journalism icon Jake Howard features renowned surfer and recording artist Jack Johnson, who also graces the cover following a recent trip to Beran Island with his longtime friend and surfing icon Kelly Slater. As always, Jack and Kelly seemed to have an uncanny ability to score perfect conditions, and this trip was no exception. They scored several of our waves in firing, all beautifully documented by acclaimed photographer Todd Glaser.

The cover artwork itself was created by another master of his craft and longtime friend of Indies Trader, Thomas Campbell, adding yet another layer of artistry to an already memorable issue.
Beyond the stunning visuals, the feature serves as an excellent introduction for anyone unfamiliar with Jack Johnson’s journey from professional surfer to one of the world’s most celebrated musicians. It also explores the deep and far-reaching connections he maintains throughout surf culture. The story coincides with the launch of a worldwide tour, the release of a new double-album soundtrack, and the debut of a new film project from acclaimed filmmaker Chris Malloy and Jack — making this a particularly exciting moment in the broader Jack Johnson universe.

For those of you who have spent time with Martin out on the island, there are more than a few familiar sights and scenes throughout the feature that will no doubt bring back memories.
The issue also includes artwork from the legendary Rick Griffin, widely regarded as one of the defining visual artists in surf culture and an influence against whom many others are measured. Altogether, it’s an exceptional edition and essential reading for anyone with an appreciation for surfing, art, music, and the culture that ties them all together.
